Trinity's
Stained Glass Windows

The designs of the memorial windows at Trinity include plants, animals and birds native tothe Smoky Mountains, favored by the person to whom the window is dedicated. These elements are intertwined with symbols of the Christian faith and featuring figures from scripture. Here are two examples of these interesting windows.

St. Mark Window
The St. Mark window is the new life window relating to Mark’s emphasis on the resurrection. The new life theme is depicted by Christ blessing the children and the animals of the mountains and their young. The two dogs, the Irish Setter, Rhoda, and Sam, the beagle were faithful companions of Woody and Margaret Catherman.
The animals, in descending order, are: the squirrel, the o’possum, the rabbit, the black bear, the deer and the turtle.

"I want to make beautiful interiors for both churches and souls. I want [all people] to hear my windows singing."
Charles J. Connick

St. Matthew Window
Descending are the figures of John baptizing Jesus on the banks of the Jordan River. The window is dedicated to the memory of Margaret Catherman who was an ardent bird-watcher. In the window in descending order are the birds that came to her feeder: the Titmouse, Bluejay, Cardinal, Carolina Chickadee, Barred Owl, Blue Bird, Brown Thrasher, Indigo Bunting and Junco. The flowers represent the Turks Cap Lilies and the Day Lilies that she grew in her garden.
